A Visit from Pip and Puddles

bucket2Happy Sunday everyone! I have a very special post for you today. My pal, Pip, isn’t doing so great and it probably won’t be terribly long before he goes OTRB. Pip’s made a bucket list of things he wants to do and places he wants to see in the time he has left. I was hoping he’d want to see Colorado so I invited him to come for a visit. He said yes!

So Pip packed up his little red car, and his friend/nurse/driver Puddles, and headed for Colorado! I don’t know about them, but I had a great time showing them the sights. The first stop was downtown Denver. We went for a carriage ride, visited the Botanic Gardens, and visited the Kong factory. Pip was furry excited to see where Kong toys were made. (You can biggify the pictures by clicking on them.)

On the way back from downtown, we stopped at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge to see the bison.RMANWRThen we went back to my house. I showed Pip and Puddles to the guest tent. It had nice comfy pillows for them to sleep on and I loaded it up with toys for them to play with. Look!Guest tentPip and Puddles slept really well in that tent, and the next morning were raring to go! We had so many places to see that instead of taking the car, we borrowed the Lake with Petie transporter. Otherwise we’d have needed a whole week to go everywhere!

We headed for the mountains. We started out in Estes Park where I took them to the Stanley Hotel. For those who don’t know about the Stanley Hotel, it’s the hotel Stephen King stayed at that inspired the book The Shining. From there we went into Rocky Mountain National Park and over Trail Ridge Road. We came down the other side of the mountain into Idaho Springs. There’s all kinds of great shops and restaurants there. But what Idaho Springs is really famous for are the Indian Hot Springs and Tommyknocker Brewery. Then we went up to the top of Mt. Evans. The road up to Mt. Evans is the highest paved road in North America! It’s 14,240 feet at the summit.

That was a lot of places for one day, but there was still more to see! So we got up furry early the next morning, jumped in the car, and headed south to Colorado Springs. First stop was the Air Force Academy. We posed on a jet and saw the Chapel. From there, it was on to the Garden of the Gods. It’s a gorgeous landscape of red rock formations, desert plants, and an amazing expanse of sky. If you go there you’ll understand how it got its name. I guess we kind of went from one chapel to another. The last stop on our tour was the Olympic training center. Pip wanted to ride the bobsled, but there was no snow.

I’m thrilled Pip and Puddles were able to stay long enough to see so many things. I just wish they could have stayed longer, because I had so many other places I wanted to take them. But I guess that would have been selfish. After all, I know there’s lots of other pals that want a visit from Pip and Puddles. So I guess I was lucky there were able to stay as long as they did.

I hope you enjoyed the tour as much as we did. Have a great week everyone!

  1. What a great time they must have had! Mom has been to Estes Park before and that hotel is huge! Glad you didn’t find any ghosts 🙂 one of these days you’ll have to lead a guided tour for all us twitter pals like you did for our wonderful summer at the lake with Petie! Keep up the good work Pumpkin!!

  2. Oh, this was SO MUCH FUN! I’ve never been on a carriage ride before. The horse was a very nice fella. And the Kong factory, oh my gosh, I think we bought the whole store. Our whole trunk is full!

The Bison were beautiful – I had to remind Puddles that they were pretty big and probably wouldn’t want her chasing them.

And thank you for our guest tent. I think I need one of these at home. It’s very comfy for sleeping and maybe I could even set up my very own grill outside for my cheeseburgers!

OK, I will back in a few minutes to read about Day 2.

    Your pal, Pip

  3. What a wonderful tour you gave Pip and Puddles. OMD! There is sooooo much to do by your house. We think you should go into the professional tour guiding business. You’re a pro! We’re glad to hear that they didn’t get into much trouble on this leg of the journey. Pawsome for them!

We look forward to their next adventure.

  4. OK, Puddles was totally scared of the Stanley Hotel. She doesn’t want anyone to know but she was totally shaking! And good thing my assistant wasn’t us on Mt. Evans because she is scared of heights. Everything is SO BEAUTIFUL!

Back again in a minute …

  5. We look pretty cool posing on that jet! And WOW, what a thrill to sit in that Olympic Sled! Wondering if it is too late to start training for the Olympics …probably, oh well. Guess, it is time to head back to the Tommyknocker Brewery for some burgers and beer. This was such a wonderful time. We saw so many beautiful and interesting things and I can’t thank you enough!!

OK, burgers and beer and cat nip on me!!

    Your pal, Pip

    1. It was a pleasure having you and Puddles here. *hugs* You’re one of the coolest pups I know. I had a wonderful time showing you guys around. And it gave me a chance to play tourist, which I don’t get to do very often.

I just was over your blog. I didn’t know I was one of your first blogging buddies. You’re blog was so great I thought you’d been blogging forever! I guess we must have started blogging at around the same time.

      1. I started blogging in 2009 or 2010, I think? I just remember your blog was one of the first ones I found AND you were one of my first followers. So, thank you! I live with two cats and am a kitty-loving dog!

  6. Wowzers you all packed in a whole lot in such a short time!! MOM and I love Colorado. And on of my MOM’s favorite places is Estes Park. You were the best host. And I was surprised there was not a whole lot of miscjief going on.

    1. I think Pip and Puddles were too worn out from their trip to make trouble. Or maybe it was the lack of oxygen. We’re a mile here and I took them even higher. After reading the other blogs, I think we got furry lucky. MOL

  7. OMDs the fresh clear Colorado air were just what Pip and Puddles needed to clear their heads and renew their spirit of adventures!!
What a grand time they had in CO!!
    hugs madi and mom

  8. OH MY….. PUMPKIN you TRULY showed Pip and Puddles a WIDE variety of thingys… The Carriage Ride and the KONG Factory!! Huge Hits fur SURE.
THAT spacious Tent was PERFECT fur their overnight accommodations. We are positive that they slept like Two Peas in a Pod. THAT is a good thingy.
We are NOT a bit surprised to hear that Puddles was SCARED of the Haunted place… Good that YOU and PIP were there to give her the courage to go on.
Ernie and I loved the VIEW from the top of Mt. Evans… and the big horn sheep were a REAL treat to see. Glad that Pip didn’t go after one… he has developed a taste fur different types of meats!!
It is probably a GOOD thingy that there was no snow fur Pip to take that FAST BOBSLED out … We all KNOW that PIP is a MORE reckless driver than Puddles. No sense denying the facts. Why ELSE would SHE be doing the driving.
Thank you Pumpkin fur showing Pip and Puddles (and US) such a fine time.
