AAHA and a Giveaway

Happy Sunday everyone! I got something special for today. The nice people from AAHA were at Blogpaws again this year. They were giving away $50 towards a vet visit at an AAHA accredited facility that the winning blogs could give away to their readers. And I won one! More about the contest at the end, but first (and most impawtant) some info about AAHA.

Pumpkin's first vet visitMost of you have seen this picture before. It’s me at my first vet visit. I love my vet cuz he’s a real kitty person. He even has kitties at home. But more impawtant, his clinic is AAHA accredited. I bet you’re asking what’s AAHA and why accreditation matters.

You all know that human hospitals have to undergo independent rigorous testing to make sure they meet certain standards for how they do things and how they treat patients. Well, vet hospitals don’t have to go through this testing in order to take care of us.

But there are people who want their pets to have the same level of care that humans get and that’s where AAHA comes in. AAHA stands for American Animal Hospital Association. They’re an independent agency that sets standards for animal care. Vet hospitals don’t have to get this accreditation, but currently about 12% to 15% of vet hospitals are accredited. If more pet parents knew about this and asked their vets about it, I think more hospitals would get accredited! I know we have added peace of mind knowing ours is.

It’s not easy to get. If you want see what the guidelines are, you can see them here: Guidelines and Position Statements. There’s a locator tool to help you find an AAHA-accredited vetinary hospital. You can also sign up for their Pets Matter e-newsletter.

If you’d like a chance at winning the $50 gift certificate, enter in the Rafflecopter widget below. You can enter until midnight on 5/31/14. You must be 18 or older to enter and live in the USA. Or if you live outside the USA, you can donate your prize to someone in the USA. I’ll announce the winner next Sunday.

  1. Pumpkin, I love this giveaway, it is the best thing any blog can give to any reader! I tweeted again and if I loose I promise not to dress up like a big dog and come to your house on Halloween >V<

  2. My regular vet isn’t AAHA accredited, but mom has been taking all of us there for 15 years and we like him so much that after we moved, we travel 30 minutes and pass countless other vets to go to him. Our local animal hospital with all the specialists and fancy equipment is AAHA accredited, but I hope I never have to go there.
