A visit from Oliver von Steiff

My good furriend Oliver von Steiff (who most of you know as @OllyTed) was telling me about a cute book he was reading. So I asked him if he’d like to write about for my blog. Lucky me – he said yes!

“my deer furend pumkin arskd mee too rite a reevyew of @TheCatsDiary’s ferst buk “Getting Out: Excerpts from a Cat’s Diary” but I finks my partikulah hoomun bettah do th typin wile I diktayt!

“Getting Out” is the story of a cat, indeed the Cat’s increasingly ingenious and occasionally dangerous attempts to escape from his “captors.” The story is told in diary form from the Cat’s point of view with day following adventure filled day. From forced labour (training on Cat Litter) to creating a Time Tunnel for escape the Cat’s ingenuity and character are charming!

I loved when the Cat discovered his first prawn and his desperation to get more prawns! He reminded me of my own small obsession with cakes! It was easy to get lost in the Cat’s world and then look up from the page at our own Bengal cats and wonder if they were planning escape too! I was rather glad that each of the Cats attempts at escape came to nothing because his captors seemed to be quite nice humans and his home was a very nice comfortable one! Life on the streets dear Cat, is not so cosy and there are no prawns for a hungry cat.

Sometimes the Cat’s ramblings were a little confusing for a small bear as the translator captured mercurial moments and perhaps the book could have been shorter and still been fun and funny but overall I enjoyed “Getting Out” enormously.

Thanks Olly. Doesn’t that sound like a fun book? I thought the book sounded so interesting, that I ordered a copy! Lots of places have the paper copy. If you’re looking for an ebook copy, the only place I found it was on Amazon.com, and you have to be careful when ordering it from there. There were two different listings for the ebook – one at $9.99 and one at $15.00. I couldn’t find a difference between the two ebook copies. Olly got his from Kobo.com, but I couldn’t get it to pull up. Olly’s in the U.K. The ebook copy may not be licensed to Kobo.com in the U.S.A. I bet that’s more than you wanted to know about book licensing issues. Hmmm. Maybe I should do a blog on that! MOL

I guess the cooler weather is making everyone want to stay inside and read! There’s been a lot of book reviews lately. I’ve got two more in the works for next month, too, so stay tuned.

See you Sunday everyone! *waves*

Princess Gwenie talks about Haunted Bedtime Stories

My pal @PrincessGwenie’s mom wrote a book of short stories called Haunted Bedtime Stories. My pals, you have got to get this book. Like every collection of short stories, some are fantastic, some are good, and some are so-so. Which stories are which will depend on your personal taste. I guarantee there will be at least one story that you will absolutely love! Every one of you will have your personal favorite. I liked it so much I invited @PrincessGwenie to come visit today to tell us a little bit about it.

“Thanks to PumpkinPuddy I am doing a guest bloggy!

I want to thank her too for reviewing my Mums book Haunted Bedtime Stories. She wrote the stories over a 4 year time. Well, Bigbro was reading them and said we so need to put these in a book! So he and a few others edited the book. Then Super Muffy’s Mum Natalie made the cover, Tada book! Its bedtime stories for grown ups. Well, if you have a copy or want one she is doing a book signing Oct. 8th, 2011 at The Source in Tucson, Az. We would love to meet you if you can come out!

I also want to take this time to thank you all so much for your love and support of me & Mum. We will make her famous!

Snuffy Norton-Bearmani and CanBeSocial

My dear pals, I have the furry bestest news ever. So many of us have been deleted or shut down by Facebook and Google+ and have been wondering where can we socialize (besides Twitter)? Well my pals, in addition to Fursbook and VirtualPetwork, we now have CanBeSocial. Here’s @SnuffyNorton to tell us about it.

“I was very excited when I heard Google was coming out with their own social networking site. I thought, no longer will we be in fear of being deleted like we are on Facebook, just because the administrators don’t think we are real.

A bunch of my bear, cat and dog friends flocked over to Google+ and tried it out. It wasn’t very long before they too stated we are not real and started to delete us.  Very upsetting indeed!!

It was then that I decided to take matters into my own paws. Having help from a couple of computer nerds  I launched CanBeSocial.com. It is not just for fluffies or cats or dogs. It is for everyone. I had heard from many of you that you want to socialize with everyone, not just your own species.

Unlike other networks we do not ask for personal details for you to join. You are welcome to share your information but it is not required to sign up. No phone numbers, birthdays, addresses etc.

We are over 130 members and that number increases daily.  We encourage all of you out there to join. Rabbits, bears, wooden ducks, humans, cats, dogs….well you get the picture.  Our only rule is that you be nice.

Following are some screen shots to show you some features and how easy the site is to use. I recommend that you do read the FAQ to make it easier for you to enjoy our site.

This is the main wall when you log in. You will see the latest activities as well as latest members, groups, photos, videos and events.

I have installed a calendar to make it easy to see what events/birthdays etc are happening. We encourage our members to add their events.

This is your own profile page. It allows you to show or hide photos, events, videos etc.  Under the profile tab, you can change the layout of your page.

There is a nice little chat program at the bottom of the screen. You can do one-on-one chatting but also you can go into the chat rooms to talk to your friends. There are public rooms and you can create your own private room.

There are many other features which you can go explore once you join.

Thanks to Pumpkinpuddy for allowing me to write about my new little venture. Hope to see you anipals and humans at www.canbesocial.com

Snuffy Norton-Bearmani”

Thank you so much Snuffy!

I belong to all three – Fursbook, VirtualPetwork, and CanBeSocial. They’re all excellent, but I have to say I personally find CanBeSocial the easiest to use. I find the user interface to be clean, well laid out, and familiar. I haven’t spent as much time there as I’d like to yet. I’m hoping with the cold weather coming I’ll get to spend more time there during the winter since Mom won’t be out so often and can help me with the computer. I hope you’ll check out all three sites. I bet you’ll wind up joining all three like I did!
