BlogPaws Day 3

Do you believe BlogPaws was two weeks ago and I’m still writing about it? MOL And there’ll be one more post after this one.

Saturday’s keynote speaker was Lena West, founder of Influence Expansion. She spoke about what influence is, how to expand your influence, and how that translates into helping your business make money. She also emphasized that we have to believe in ourselves and that we deserve to be successful. She spoke about being focused – “If you’re not good at one thing, how can you be good at several?” I thought that was an excellent point. I know I’m one for scattering myself all over the place! MOL

My first workshop on Saturday was Copyright with Emily Campbell from Dunlop Codding and Jason Merrihew from AAHA. Emily spoke about copyright issues involved when you use stuff you find on the web and when you have to disclose your relationship with a company when you write about them. Jason spoke about where to find credible sources and how to judge the sources you find.

After lunch was a workshop on Analytics with Robin Olson from Covered in Cat Hair and Sam Moore from Resonetrics. They spoke about how you can use analytics to find out what’s going on with your blog and how to use those analytics to focus on what you want or need to change to drive traffic. You can find out what’s working and what isn’t. They also talked about how to increase your effective presence on Facebook and gave some info on Pinterest.

My last workshop was with Lena West. She had given away a blog makeover at breakfast and her afternoon workshop was our getting to watch her makeover the blog. Of course, I wanted to win the makeover, but I wasn’t so lucky. I wasn’t too upset though because the winner was my good pal @cheshireK (Robin) over at Cheshire Loves Karma. Lena gave Robin some excellent advice about unifying her look (having blog and business cards look alike), moving to a self-hosted blog, and cleaning up her look. There were other bits of advice, too. If you saw the blog before but haven’t seen it since Robin implemented Lena’s advice, you’ll be amazed at the changes! The blog looks absolutely fantastic!

Saturday night was the Nose-to-Nose Social Media Pet Blogging Awards sponsored by Halo, Purely for Pets and Freekibble.com. We got our picture taken on the red cawpet. I wore my beautiful pink pearls that @MizzBassie made for me. If you haven’t see her pet necklaces, you have to check them out! You can see them at Silkenpaw.net. I just love mine!

There was a whole bunch of us having an online Twitter pawty from Blogpaws during the event. I got to Barktend! We had loads of fun. I hope most of you were there and also watched the awards being streamed. If you missed out and want to see who the winners were, they’re listed at the BlogPaws website.

As soon as the evening’s festivities ended, it was back to the room to pack. We were leaving extremely early in the morning because it was supposed to be very hot the next day. I’ll tell you about that and the drive home in the next installment. I’ll be indirectly blogging about BlogPaws for a long time. We got so many samples and so much information that I’ll be doing product reviews and blogs inspired by BlogPaws for some time to come.

I was sad to leave BlogPaws and to say good-bye to all the wonderful people and pets I met there. Getting to know my pals in pawson made them all that much more special to me. I’m glad I have my pictures to keep their faces fresh in my memory.

BlogPaws Day 1

My pals, I’m ashamed to admit that Mom had to do day 1 without me. *sad face* I had too much excitement in the morning and wound up spending most of the afternoon and all of the evening in the hotel room. I missed seeing Tillman and the others do their performance.

You see, Mom took me to see Temple Square and some of downtown SLC. (I’ll tell you about that after we’re done reporting on BlogPaws.) It was all very beautiful, but I really didn’t like the traffic noise. So I made it through lunch ok, but threw up my treats after lunch. Mom cleaned up the stroller and we went back down to visit with people, but I started throwing up again. So Mom cleaned the stroller again and then went out without me! So she’s gonna have to tell you about the opening festivities. Oh, and by the time she got back up to the room that night I was all rested, happy, and ready to cuddle. And I got lots of cuddles.

Mom here. BlogPaws started off with a bang! Rosie and Sully from ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ did a demonstration of their balloon popping skills! We also got to see Norman ride his scooter. Then the pièce de résistance, Tillman on his skateboard! I’ve loaded some videos of them to Pumpkin’s YouTube channel. You can see them at http://www.youtube.com/user/pumpkinpuddy.

After the demonstration, there was a welcome reception. Trone Brand Energy did a presentation on Pet Bloggers: Reading and Writing Insights. I’m embarrassed to admit that I was so excited about being at BlogPaws and meeting a lot of my online friends face-to-face for the first time that I didn’t take any notes. Looking back, I wish I had. There was so much information given to us over throughout the conference that I can’t remember who said what if it wasn’t written down. *hangs head in shame*.

Aside from all the great information at BlogPaws, a lot of us go to network. There’s so many pals we talk to online everyday or whose blogs we read. Being able to put a face to a name is wonderful. Being able to actually talk to that person and get a sense of who they really are is amazing. Let’s take BZTAT for example. We all know what an amazing artist she is and how intelligent she is. We know she’s passionate about animals and about trying to end domestic violence against humans and animals. We know her cats, especially @BrewskiButt, who comes across as a real wiseacre. But when you meet her face-to-face, you get to meet Vicki Boatright, the person. From Brewski’s wisecracking, you wouldn’t know what a kind, warm, down-to-earth person Vicki is.

If I started to list all the people I met at BlogPaws, this post would turn into a book! So I’m just gonna list a few by their twitter names or blogs: @MaggieTKat, @TinyPearlCat, @Cokiethecat, @indykitty, @Cosmohavanese, @informedferret, @snotfacecritter, @Niqqi, @danapixie, @pushupsnpaws, @brutusthedane, Moderncat, Glogirly, The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey, Catsparella, Sparkle, @Nutmegtorby, @bunnyjeancook, and the list goes on and on and on!

There were lots of pictures, so I’m going to have a gallery of pics at the end of each post. Here’s day one!
