Product review – ökocat litter

Happy Sunday everyone! OMC, I can’t believe how pawsome the weather has been. In all my 5 years I haven’t seen a fall this fantastic. Mom said fall used to be like this all the time, but I’ve never seen it before. Warm during the day, cool and crispy at night, the way fall should be. Anyway, enough about fall.

20141011_180416The folks at asked us to test out a new litter they’re carrying. It’s called ökocat litter. We tried out the Long Hair Breeds Clumping variety. There are three other varieties, too. The litter has lots of pros. From the website:

“Okocat Natural Wood Long Hair Breeds Cat Litter contains specifically formulated pellets designed to keep litter in the box out and of your cat’s fur. Okocat litter is an eco friendly way to take care of your cat’s litter needs. It absorbs 500% its weight in moisture. It also clumps very well for easy scooping and disposing. Biodegradable for flushable disposal. Unlike powdery clay dust that can have chemicals, additives, and synthetic scents that are harmful to cats, Okocat Natural Wood Clumping Litter is free of additives and chemicals. With little-to-no dust, those with allergies in your home will breathe easy.

The natural plant fibers in Okocat bind and trap liquids and odors so they can’t escape. This litter is naturally antibacterial and biodegradable. Lightweight box with handle and pour spout are easy to carry and store.

Key Benefits

  • Controls odors for 7 days
  • Natural pine litter absorbs 500% its weight in moisture
  • Coniferous wood fights bacterial growth
  • Free of harmful chemicals & synthetic scents
  • Offers little to no airborne dust to bother allergies
  • Comes in compostable box”

Mom liked that the litter isn’t harmful to us. It really does control odor. We had the 8.4 lb. box. I can’t really judge how long the litter would last for the 3 of us because we have 2 other litter boxes with our regular litter, and all 3 boxes were used, but so far we got a month out of the box and what’s left would probably last us another 2 or 3 weeks. It really is lightweight, flushable, and really didn’t stick to my long furs. So it does live up to all its claims (except one).  Those are the pros, and they’re some pretty pawsome pros.

Now for the cons. The litter pellets won’t go through the slots in a standard litter scoop. That was first feedback we gave to via an email. We suggested they send a scoop with it to the next testor. They were nice enough to send us a scoop that the pellets fit through, but it was very small. I’ve seen reviews of this scoop and they all complain about the same thing – the scoop is just too small and the handle is too short. I haven’t been able to find any other scoop that can handle pellet litter, so that’s something to consider if you’re thinking about changing to any pellet litter. The clumps don’t stay together very well, and because the scoop is so small, the clumps sometimes fall apart when you’re trying to scoop them out of the box. Also, the pellets do fall apart some making a lot of dust in the bottom of the box so I don’t know why they say it doesn’t have dust. It does!

20141011_18061220141102_114318Another con – look at the mess! As you can see from the two pictures, we started with the litter in a low sided box. We made a huge mess with it so mom switched it to a high sided box. We still made a huge mess! It tracks something terrible. This litter box is downstairs and mom’s found some of the litter upstairs! Mom thought being pellets (and being big and heavy compared to other litter pieces) they’d stay in the box. MOL!

Con number three – only EK used that new litter regularly. I used both litters, and Candy only used the old litter. Since Candy won’t use the new litter we couldn’t switch even if we wanted to. And frankly, that’s usually the decision maker when it comes to choosing litter – will we use it. That Candy won’t use it is a big enough con to outweigh all the pros, so we’re sticking with our old litter.

Even though Candy won’t use it, this litter really did have a lot of pros. More pros then most other litters we’ve tested in our search to find something better for us than crystal litter. I would strongly recommend testing this litter if you’re looking for a natural litter to try out. So far this has been the best of all the natural litters we’ve tested.

That’s it for today! Gotta go watch football. #GoBroncos! Have a great week everyone!

Follow-up Review of the World’s Best Cat Litter™ Advanced Natural Series

DSCN4437Happy Sunday everyone! I got to go to a new park yesterday, but that story has to wait for next week. This week, I have to finish my review of the World’s Best Cat Litter™ Advanced Natural Series.

We’ve been using the new litter for about 2 weeks now. All three of us are using the box, and using it more than our old litter. The last time we tried the World’s Best Cat Litter we didn’t like it. No one would use it. But the new Advanced Natural Series was a big hit. It feels good under our paws, and we can dig in it pretty good.

Mom likes it, too, for several reasons:

  1. It’s not clay.
  2. It controlled the litter box odor really well.
  3. It’s not as harsh underfoot as the crystals we’ve been using.
  4. It doesn’t mat in my fur like the last clumping litter we tried.
  5. It doesn’t stick to the bottom of the box.

There’s one problem with the litter. Do you see the mess in the pictures? This is the messiest litter mom said she’s ever encountered in her 25 years of caring for kitties. She’s never seen a litter track like this one does. But she went out and bought more anyway!

Now comes the fun part! I get to give away a bag of the World’s Best Cat Litter™ Advanced Natural Series. It’s open to everyone in the continental USA. You get to choose between Original or Pine Blend. Enter via the Rafflecopter widget. Make sure you leave a comment, too. You have to leave a comment to be entered. I’ll take entries until Friday at midnight. Good luck!

Something new from World’s Best Cat Litter™

DSCN4434Happy Sunday everyone. It’s been pretty quiet time around here. So I was pretty excited when a box showed up addressed to me! Did it have toys in it? No. Noms? No. So what was in it? Litter. But it wasn’t just any litter. It was the newest litter from World’s Best Cat Litter™ – it’s from their Advanced Natural Series! It’s not even in the stores yet and we get to try it out!

Here’s what World’s Best Cat Litter™ has to say about they’re new product:

“World’s Best Cat Litter™ Introduces Advanced Natural Series New Series Takes Aim at  Offering Customers The World’s Best Clumping Litter Muscatine, IA – July 1, 2013 — World’s Best Cat Litter™ has responded to rising consumer demand for fast and easy cleanup by creating an Advanced Natural Series that offers two new all-natural cat litters specifically  formulated for high performance clumping.

The newest addition to the World’s Best Cat Litter™ product family isn’t just an addition to their whole-kernel corn line-up. It’s an entirely new litter that uses a blend of naturally  absorbent plant fibers to meet customer demand for high performance clumping. Available in early July, Advanced Natural will be offered exclusively at independent pet stores and PETCO®. Advanced Natural will be offered in Original and Pine Blend formulas in 6, 12, and 24 pound bags.

World’s Best Cat Litter™ researched customer expectations and found overwhelming  demand for a litter that delivers better clumping for fast and easy cleanup. The brand’s litter development team tested countless ingredients before arriving at an Advanced Natural
formulation that harnesses the natural absorbency of a special plant fiber blend.

The Advanced Natural Series joins the Original Series in drawing on a patented process that allows World’s Best Cat Litter™ ingredients to be compressed into tight granules that deliver concentrated power.

“We are excited to unveil a new Advanced Natural Series that challenges people’s expectations of a clumping litter. Pet parents are looking for natural and safe products that simplify cleanup. Advanced Natural delivers by producing small, tight clumps that eliminate the need to scrape the bottom of the litter box,” said Jean Broders, Brand Manager of World’s Best Cat Litter™.

In addition to enhanced clumping, Advanced Natural also offers powerful odor control and long performance. And because it contains 100% natural and renewable ingredients and no airborne silica dust, it’s safe for pets, people and the planet. The Advanced Natural Series joins the Original Series in drawing on a patented process that allows World’s Best Cat Litter™ to deliver Concentrated Power for a Cleaner Litter Box.

World’s Best Cat Litter™ leaders say the Advanced Natural Series fulfills the brand’s goal of offering a complete line-up of natural litters that meet the most sought-after consumer preferences.

“We now have six different formulas to meet the needs of different cat-owning households. Our pet specialty retailers can take confidence in knowing they have options for all their customers,” Broders explained.

World’s Best Cat Litter™ will now consist of an Original Series made up of Clumping, Multiple Cat Clumping, Lavender Scented Multiple Cat Clumping and Forest Scented Clumping formulas and the new Advanced Natural Series, which is made up of the
Original and Pine Blend formulas.

Offered in a variety of clumping formulas and sizes, Original Series is available in PetSmart® and PETCO®, most Target® stores, and other leading pet and grocery stores nationwide. Advanced Natural Series is available at leading independent pet stores and PETCO®.”

DSCN4438Here’s what we have to say about it. EK was in the box and using it 30 seconds after mom put it down. He’s already scattered litter all over the place. But he is using it. Mom just put it down last night, so not much to report yet. I’ll follow up in a couple of weeks and let you know how we like it. We got the unscented variety because mom doesn’t like anything scented in the house because of her allergies.

That’s it for today. Have a great week everyone!
