It’s the Season of Giving

The holidays will be here before we know it. This is the time of year when everyone thinks about what they’re gonna give to their family and furriends. I’m gonna ask you to think about giving to those who don’t have family and furriends to give them anything.

We anipals that have furever homes are furry lucky. There’s a lot of anipals in shelters who need a little luck, too. There’s a lot we can do to help them. Here’s just a few.

Get involved in Iams Home for the Holidays. There’s lots of ways to help. Head over to the Iams Home for the Holidays website to see how you can help.

Donate to the The Santa Paws Drive, the Ferret Giving Tree, or other drives that are collecting money for toys, food, and medical care for shelter pets.

Donate either time or money to your local shelter. I know lots of you do this year round, but many of us just can’t afford to do that. If you can’t afford to donate at any other time of year, please try to find a few pennies out of your holiday budget to help out at this time of year. If you can’t donate money, try to see what else you can do to help out. Shelters always need more hands than they can afford salaries for. Donate your time instead of your dollars.

Another way you can help is to Shop Anipals! Lots of the anipals donate portions of their sales to anipal causes. You can get great stuff to give for presents and help anipals at the same time.

It’s not just anipals that need extra help this time of year. We all know lots of people that are having a hard time in this crappy economy we live in. People have a lot harder time accepting help than animals do. So think of ways to help that won’t embarrass them. Maybe a gift card tucked in a holiday card. Send stuff you know they need anonymously to their house if you know their address.

Monday morning edit: Just talked to my furriend @OllyTed over in the UK. His particular human goes around to elderly neighbors this time of year to make sure their heating is on and that they’re ok. He leaves his number in case they need anything through the cold months. How’s that for a spectacular idea!

That’s it for today my furriends. Have a great week everyone!

Commentathon Results, Shop Anipals, and More!

Happy Wednesday everyone! No guest blogger today, so you’ll have to make do with me. MOL! Got lots to tell you, too.

First, big news about my commentathon. I’ve got over 100 comments! When Mom said I could have 50 cents a comment she never believed I’d meet my goal. I usually only get 5 or 6 comments a post. But I fooled her – I pulled it off! Thank you to everyone who left a comment. I couldn’t have done it without you. Duncan’s Place and The Santa Paws Drive will get at least $25 each. I won’t know the exact amount until Friday when I close comments. Woo hoo!

Next, I want to remind everyone about the Winter Carnival at the Lake With Petie (#WCLWP). It’s December 16-18. Details and a link to the twtvite are here: I hope you all can make it for at least part of the weekend. It’s gonna be a blast!

The holidays are coming. That means shopping – lots and lots of shopping. I can’t think of any place better to get cards and gifts than from your fellow anipals. I’ve put together a list of pals with shops and websites selling original work, anipal branded merchandise, and pet related items. Don’t drive yourself crazy at the mall – shop anipals!

This past weekend was the Anipal Academy Awards Ceremony. I got an award! All the volunteers that help out at pawties and charity got a star on the walk of fame. Here’s mine!

We had some snow a couple of weeks ago. One of my ferret friends up in Boulder (@snotfacecritter) was telling me how much fun it was to play in the snow. Silly me, decided to find out for myself. So Mom got my harness and leash and we went out into the snow.

Here I am out in the snow freezing my paws off!

Huge mistake! That’s what I get for listening to a woozle. I guess what woozles like and what kitties like (or at least this little kitty) are two very different things. I am not going out in the snow again. Brrrrrr!

So that’s it for today. Stop back on Sunday for the final total on my commentathon. See you then!

Candy & EK’s First Gotcha Day!

Mom went to Duncan’s Place a year ago to find me a playmate and came home with two! This is how we usually find EK and Candy – all cuddled up together, and why Mom brought both home. It’s been an interesting year. In their honor, I’m having a commentathon. More about that later.

EK and I got along right away. I didn’t like Candy at first. In fact, we’re first starting to get along now! Mom even saw me groom Candy last week. Now we all play together all the time.

Pumpkin and Candy on the Fridge

I never used to climb on anything. I didn’t get on counters, much less anywhere higher. But Candy & EK climb on everything! Candy was the first one to go on top of the fridge and the cabinets. Now I go up there too!

EK’s a stinker boy but we like him anyway. Here he is making trouble as usual.

EK in the recycling bin.
EK splashing water all over the kitchen. Mom had to put a washing machine pan under the fountain cuz he makes such a mess!

You’ve all heard about our trials and tribulations with how fussy Candy can be. We have to be careful what she eats or she gets the runs. We’ve changed litters a few times cuz she decided she didn’t like the litter anymore and peed on the rugs. Sigh. Between EK making trouble and Candy being such a fussy thing, sometimes I wonder why Mom kept them. But she did, and now I’m glad she did. I pretend not to like them, but really I do!

Since we had our big pawty for my gotcha day, and it’s Anipal Academy Awards this weekend, we’re having kind of a low key celebration. We did get a nip pawty last night. Here’s Candy playing in the nip.

Now the important stuff. The commentathon. Mom’s giving me 50 cents for each comment I get by Friday, 11/18. Half the green papers are going to Duncan’s Place. After all, that’s where the squirts came from and we support them whenever we can. The other half of the green papers are going to the Santa Paws Drive. We know how much fun toys are and we think shelter pets should have them too. It helps them be less bored while they wait for furever homes and helps them socialize. I hope we get lots of comments! My goal is to have at least $50 – $25 for each place. That’s an awful lot of comments to get there. Don’t let me down pals.

I might have a guest blogger this week, but I’m not sure. If I don’t, I’ll be back myself cuz I got some funny pics I never got around to post. And I’ll update you on the commentathon.

Have a good week everyone!
